Originally known as Hurn Airport, Bournemouth International Airport offers customers a real alternative from flights from the main London Airports. Having been completely re-furbished Malta International Airport became operational for flights in 1992. A special feature of the terminal complex is the presence of an additional tax free shop for passengers arriving in Malta rather than departing. The locals still refer to the airport as Luqua airport and it is often mistakenly referred to by the foreign press as Valletta Airport.
