Now called Nottingham East Midlands the airport was renamed in 2004 to help better explain where the airport was located as many people who were questioned failed to locate the area classed as East Midlands. Girona Airport or Girona-Costa Brava Airport is an airport located 12 km south from the city of Girona, The airport was built in 1965, but over the last couple of years the passenger traffic at the Airport has grown spectacularly. This is mainly due to the Low Cost Airlines Ryanair and Martinair choosing to fly there as part of there European destinations. This airport is an excelent alternative to Barcelona Airport, but it is approximatly 100 km away, so the transfer times do put some people off. For a flight to Girona the airport code to use is GRO.
