Actually built by the US Air Force Stansted Airport had been used by tour operators as a cheaper alternative to flights from Gatwick and Heathrow. Demand increased and Stansted was firther developed to become London’s third airport. Expansion to passenger service and the runway means its is now possible to fly to many worldwide destinations. Larnaca International Airport is Cyprus’s main international airport. Originally the British Armed Forces used the airport. It has two large terminals and a larger building at the rear for arrivals, which was expanded in February 2006. Cyprus is a major tourist destination and sees around 5 million people a year pass through the airport, but as the airport wasn’t designed for the capacity it is being further developed which should be finished by 2009.
